When you retell something you have heard from others, you use indirect speech. This is reflected in a grammatical shift from using main clauses to using subordinate clauses.
Direct speech:
Anna siger til Peter: "Jeg vil gerne flytte til Italien (hovedsætning)
Anna says to Peter: I would like to move to Italy (main clause)
Indirect speech:
Peter siger: "Anna fortalte (hovedsætning), at hun gerne vil flytte til Italien (bisætning)
Peter says: "Anna said (main clause) that she would like to move to Italy (subordinate clause)

When retelling something, you usually us the passive voice. The passive voice indicates that the subject is on the receiving end and not the one who performs the action.
Passive voice has two forms in Danish:
- Use of the verb "blive" (will be)
E.g.: "Jeg bliver hentet klokken tolv" (I will be picked up at twelve)
- Use of the -s form:
E.g.: "Peter skal hentes klokken tolv" (Peter will be picked up at twelve)
